      Hi Nigel

Thanks so much for the doc and pic. You have opened up a whole new avenue
for me here! I didn't have any of the Waterman information!

I need to do more study to work it out clearly. But I agree with your
      thinking regarding
      my record of:
"Charles CAMPBELL" bc1806 married to "Louisa D ?"

      ...being....

"Charles Morris CAMPBELL" bc1806 married to "Louisa D BLOODWORTH"

Re my Charles CAMPBELL b1806... being Charles "Morris" CAMPBELL:
      Your "Campbell Watermen" document provides:
The match of "Frederick Robert CAMPBELL" being apprenticed to Charles Morris
      CAMPBELL.
The match of "Charles Morris CAMPBELL" (jr) being apprenticed to another
      CAMPBELL
...and the fact that these two names and ages match the sons in my records.
I also just noticed that on my 1851 census copy, Charles senior's middle
      initial is recorded as "M".

Re my "Louisa D ?"... being "Louisa D BLOODWORTH":
The marriage/ banns doc (attached) provides:
The close matches of the names and approximate ages.
The geographical location of the marriage - Kennington being so close to
Lambeth where my Charles and Louisa lived.
The first name of one of the witnesses "Robert BLOODWORTH" being repeated in
the name of the first son.

So, as described I need to do a more thorough review, but thanks to your
efforts it looks like I might finally be on track to work out how all these
CAMPBELL's fit together and where the Doggetts story came from!

I'll have a look at the details in your tree online and be in touch once I
have pieced more of it together.

Re the photo, it isn't one I have seen before. But I will keep an eye out
for any pictures of that era, though I'm not sure that my grandmother has
any that are that old. Are you able to send me the other pic you mentioned
of Charles Morris CAMPBELL? Also it would be of interest to be in touch
with Roy once I have nailed down the linkages, so feel free to pass him my
      email address.

By the way, not sure if I mentioned it but my mother is a CAMPBELL...
Frederick Robert CAMPBELL bc1834 was her GG Grandfather.

      Many thanks again!

Subject: RE: Photo of the Campbells
Hi Mark,Thanks for your reply. I think the connection is Charles Campbell (1806 in your tree) married to Louisa D ?. I belive that is Louisa Day Bloodworth - they are ancestors of Roy Campbell who sent me the photo (on it's way to you by e-mail). Roy also sent me a photo of a Charles Morris Campbell - Fireman, which fits with your tree.

I think the common link is William Campbell, b. 1770 in Stepney (Mariner). His second marriage was to Ann Unknown (probably Ann Gentle but I can't prove it). His eldest son was William Campbell (b.1803), married to Jane Lang and their son was William Henry (b.1829). William and Ann's second son was Charles Morris, who I think is the ancestor in your tree.

I'm also e-mailing you a list I compiled from visits to the Guildhall Library, trying to identify all Campbells who became WatermenLightermen. I expect you have most of this info. from Parish Register.com but hope it's of some interest.
I'll be interested to hear if you think this is the right family link. I have been finding that old family rumours tend to have some substance. I always understood from my mum that a Campbell relative had run the Tiger Tavern at Tower Hill but only had proof of it just before Christmas.
      Best regards,
      Nigel

Hi Nigel, thanks for your note. I'm afraid I don't know of the picture you describe. I'm not actually sure whether or not we are talking about the same CAMPBELL family as I've struggled to make the link between "my" CAMPBELL family and the CAMPBELL family that contains the famous "William CAMPBELL" of Coat and Doggetts fame who appears in your tree. My grandfather (Douglas CAMPBELL b1917) spoke of a relation who won the Coat & Doggetts (details of this are recorded under his record in my tree) but I can't work out a firm link!
My Grandmother still has all the CAMPBELL photos so I would need to have a good look through those, not sure when I might get the chance to do that though! If you can let me have a copy of the photo I can let you know if it matches up with anything I find in future.
      cheers

Hello, Do you have a photo of 4 Campbell brothers sitting on a bench with their father, and a young boy? I received this photo a while back from Roy Campbell (descended from Charles Morris Campbell - born in Streatham, now living in the US). He is not sure who is in the picture but thinks the boy is his father, sitting on his grandfather's knee. That makes it possible it is a photo of Charles (b. 1865) and his sons, Charles, Frank, Alick and John. I'd be interested to know if you have that picture and know who the people are.
      Kind regards,
      Nigel
