    • Chapelhay was heavily bombed during the second World War and many buildings had to be demolished. Chapelhay takes its name from being the site of an old chapel of St. Nicholas. Hence the original name of Chapelhay Street beside the Old Town Hall was St. Nicholas Street as it led to the chapel. The chapel suffered badly during the Civil War when it was used as a fort and was destroyed not long after. Here again was a scene of heavy fighting and much bloodshed. Very little remains of Chapelhay's previous history. A stone column from the St. Nicholas Chapel is in Weymouth Museum and the original stone steps mentioned by Coker still exist in part but are hidden. The route beside Holy Trinity church up to Chapelhay, known as Chapelhay Steps, has moved from its original setting. A decision was made in 1870 to improve access to Chapelhay and eventually some years later, plans were put forward for this to be carried out and in 1884 some houses just to the west of the church were demolished. At the same time Holy Trinity church was extended and the new approach to Chapelhay was completed in December 1884. http://www.weymouth-dorset.co.uk/oldweymouth.html
Clearly it seems that "Chapelry West" mentioned in the census no longer exists. Perhaps these were the houses to the West of Holy Trinity Church mentioned above that were demolished. Or they may have been further up the hill on Chapelhay. The residence above William's in the census is noted as "Cottage behind Church" which must refer to Holy Trinity Church which was built in 1836.

Unable to locate William STANTON on the 1841 (he would still have been in Ireland) or 1861 census or in any crew lists searched. It is possible he is away at sea in 1861, there is a William STANTON of roughly the right age on a vessel with the Royal Navy at this time but he is recorded as born Stonehouse, Devon.

Unsure whether this is the same William since there seem to have been a number of STANTON's in the Cork area at that time.

From the 1861 Census I'm guessing that William must be away at sea as Teriza is shown as married and not as a widow! I can't seem to find him anywhere else in the Census.
From the 1871 Census they've obviously moved to Southampton and all the
kids have gone - I looked on Free BMD and this might well be him (or at
      least the death of him!):
