Comments from Lesley Ann Martin (Albert's grandaughter):
"I didn't know that Grandad stayed in London while his mother and children went back to Bristol. Is that the reason the family didn't like him? What do you think it was like for a 16y/o to stay in London on his own. Do you know what he did and where he lived? I know he was something to do with Goldsmiths College. He went into the Royal Engineers and the Observers Corps. He was an accountant in Maidstone. After my grandmother died he lived with my mother and father. He died in 1971 of cancer. He suffered badly, they removed his ear and grafted skin from his shoulder but it didn't do any good, I think he was a guinea pig."

Albert may have felt he had little choice but to leave the family at the same time as his father William did in order to avoid burden of maintenance in fathers stead. It was a condition of local "Guardians" that a child's income be taken before support would be given.

      Hello Mark,
I imagine that your underquoted message was automated. I am family, and believe we met briefly at your Grandfather Ronald's thanksgiving service. Certainly your father knows me. My father was Herbert Heath, sister of Annie Heath. Coincidentally, I mailed your Uncle Mervyn. yesterday im:
      "..................
I did a search of Passenger Lists and think I traced our mutual grandfather's departure from UK. A William Heath (middle names not given) sailed aboard "Virginian" from Liverpool for Montreal on 19th July 1912 aged 41 (which ties in with DOB 1871). Now it will mean trying to find further details from Montreal which I will follow up in my usual swift manner!
I (and Leila) both met Uncle Albert and his daughter Pat sometime before we were married (in 1958). Pat was unmarried, quite a bit older than I, and had a large purple patch on her face. They told us that they lived in Maidstone and we tried to trace them when we moved to London, but no joy.
I've had a look at Stantonetal and must complement Mark. The shot 0f Richmond Terrace surprised me; I wondered how anyone recalled that Leila and I lived there (1958-62 in No. 4 on the same floor as your mother) - what a coincidence.

    6. [S12] Marriage Certificate, HEATH, William Charles; & BEATON, Mary; 1889;.
Mervyn has a photo-copy of the Marriage Certificate, No. 340, issued in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist, Hammersmith, Middlesex, on 28 January, 1889, recording Marriage, after Banns, between :
William Charles HEATH, 19, Bachelor, (Ship's) Steward, 33 Cardross Street, Father John Charles HEATH,
      and
Mary BEATON, 19, Spinster, - 33 Cardross Street, Father John George BEATON.
(Witnessed in the presence of Fred John Manders and Louisa Groombridge).
The copy was one I received from a cousin whose mother was, like my Mum, a daughter of William Charles, so, as you say we have not much doubt about the authenticity of the record.
