Thanks for that Mark - another small update

I have had a lovely chat with Joy Collins (Joyce CAMPBELL) in the US - she has a fab memory and had told me all sorts of stories about the Wests. She confirmed that Joe West did change his name to Joe Watson - so this is the famous Uncle Joe and that he made his money through the making of slot machines in Seattle. I believe it was he that came to London to meet the EAMES family and invited them to the Dorchester but sadly they didn’t go! I attach his picture for those of you who haven’t got it.

She also told me about another WEST sister - Francis who was married to a Tom SALMON and then a Harry BALL - apparently she died in a gas leak in her home in Gosport years ago and another cousin died too - I shall get more details when I speak to Joy again - I was overwhelmed with info yesterday so didn’t take it in properly or make coherent notes.

Joy is attending a big party that Janet Alexander (great grand daughter of Alice CAMPBELL) is giving for her mother Alice GREGORY - Alice was Alice LIGUORI and I think known as Sister and was the daughter of Mabel CAMPBELL and Anthony LIGUORI. Alice LIGUORI was first married to Jack Pike - thank you to whoever gave me that!

I think some of the Seattle family will be at the party as will Bruce BECKHAM - Rebecca WEST’s great grandson so hopefully more photos and nuggets of info.
I shall on any more bits to you all.

Subject: Mabel Campbell's family found in America
      Hello All

Just a quick note to say I have managed to find Aunt Alice’s daughter Mabel’s family in America.

Just to recap - there were 3 West daughters:

Rebecca (1865-?) who married John Beckham then on his death emigrated to America in 1912.
Louisa (1881-1915) - who married Henry Eames
Alice (1883-1979) who married Fred Campbell.

Mabel (1902-1989) went to America in the early 1920’s and married Anthony Liguori in 1927. She went on to have 2 children Alice and Joseph.

On Friday I found Joseph’s son John and have had a long chat with him. He is thrilled to be in touch with us (then again he hasn’t met you lot - that will change things!) I have sent him a potted history of what has been happening with the family but don’t want to overwhelm him. The live in Tillson, NY State.

Mabel’s children Joseph and Alice are still around and everyone has great memories of the indomitable Aunt Alice - I wish I had met her.

I will pass on anything he comes back to me with.

Thank you everyone that gave me the crumbs of info that put me on this path, I went down a few dead ends but got there in the end!

I do hope you are all keeping well and healthy - wouldn’t it be lovely to get everyone together - lovely but loud!!

Everyone here is well - Shirley and George are going strong, my son Christopher is towering over me - well 5 ft 2 inches isn’t a big target. Steve is very well but not looking forward to turning 50 in August.

I will be in touch very soon.

Much love to you and yours

      Dear Mark,

Mum, your nan, remembers Harry Ball. He owned a pub in Salibury and she and dad visited him several times a year. I think the Janet is the child that Jenny and I met when we all stayed at Nan Campbell's (Alice Campbell) one summer. I wonder if it is her and if it is whether she remembers climbing on the furniture to get a plastic rose. There was an accident and I think we broke a mirror. Nan wasn't too happy about that. I wonder if it is here whether she remembers Jenny and me.
      Love Sue

      Comments: Hi There,

I'm a descendant of Fredrick William Ball, child of Frances Ada Salmon (nee West) and Henry Ball. A friend of mine showed me this page and I see you are also related. Would love to touch bases and swap info if you like. Have found a fair bit on Fred. He came out to Australia where he met his wife Margaret.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
      Warm regards,
      Vicki
