1901 census records that Frederick suffered from epileptic fits. Perhaps this is how he died?
1911 census also records Frederick as an epileptic, he is listed along with all the other epileptic inmates at the workhouse.

      Confirmed:
1911 census for Islington workhouse does record Frederick, Edith and Dennis as inmates as below. Also George and Edith at the Islington Guardian's School.

      However:
There is also a Florence WEST, bc1900 at the school. Possible this could be the missing fifth child and "George" and "William G" are indeed one and the same. No sign of a matching birth record for this Florence to Frederick and Edith, although the 1901 census records a Florence WEST, b1900 London, "Nurse Child" being taken care of by Kate HERBERT (who also has another "Nurse child" in her care) in Hoddersdon, Hertfordshire - perhaps this might be her?

      08/11
Seems to be some conflict here between the data that EDavies has below (that Frederick William WEST is living in 1950, and the email from JCOLLINS 10/08/2009 which suggests that a Dennis WEST, (son of Frederick) believed his father had died young.

1911 census has at the Islington Workhouse (not listed as a family though):
Frederic WEST cb1869 in Islington London, married. (French Polisher - which fits in with 1891 census)
Edith WEST bc1874 (married 22 yrs - bang on for William G's birth), (borne 5 children - 4 still living)
Dennis WEST bc1910 (which fits in with the data on JCOLLINS email). This is the only Dennis WEST of the right age in London on the 1911 census.
If the family are in the workhouse then it makes sense that a 1yr old Dennis would remain with his parents...
And then at Islington Guardian's Schools:
Edith WEST bc1901 (which fits in with the dates from EDAVIES below). This seems to be the only likely Edith WEST for this age in London as most of others have been checked.
George WEST bc1899 (which fits in with the data on JCOLLINS email).

No sign of William G or Joseph at any institution in Islington in 1911 census. JCOLLINS email contains primary evidence that Dennis had a brother "George". Unlikely that this was William G as the birth date of 1899 would be well out. Perhaps more likely that George was perhaps the "missing" 5th child (meaning either William G or Joseph must have been dead).

There is a Joseph WEST in 1911 living with Adelaid WEST (described as son) in Weedington Road, London. We know that Mary Ann WEST (nee White) was living in Weedington Road in 1881. Perhaps Joseph was sent to live with Adelaid (an aunt?) when Fred and Edith fell on hard times at the workhouse?
This would suggest that William G was dead. There are however plenty of William WEST's born around the same time in the 1911 census that could be him.

      02/08
      EDavies data suggests:

FREDERICK WILLIAM WEST (FREDERICK WILLIAM1) was born Abt. 1870. He married EDITH MARY TASKER 1891 in Pancras. She was born Abt. 1874.

Hi there I am a little confused by all the names in the family and I cant for the life of me know what is your name I cant refer to you as stanton.so let me know what we call you. I have gone through your web site and read your interesting recordings. I can up date you on a little more info or corrections in some cases. Here goes. It was nice to read I was 4 years younger than I thought I was ,actually born in 1929, I was the first Granddaughter of Alice Campbell .I and my Brother Len were brought up by her after our parents were divorced, I was about 6-7 and Len was 3 years younger . Len was born in 1932 and is married to Emily Noyce in about 1959, they have no children. My Mum, Dorothy Campbell second marriage to Richard Boynton was in about 1945-46 they had three girls one died at the age of 4 months, There is Patricia Nash, and Susan.Boyn ton she married a Robert Burt and they had one son, they have been divorced for quite a few years now.Alex Campbell married a Jean Moore they had one child Ann Campbell. Ann Campbell married a Andrew Hall they had two children Samantha and Mathew, they were divorced , then Ann married a Roger Walworth, they never had any children.Alfred Campbell Alice Campbell's son died in about 1935, he was married to Hilda Nottage they had one son Colin Campbell, after Alfred died Hilda married Alfred's cousin Dennis West ,he was a regular soldier, they had two children Valerie and George. George died in a motor road accident when he was eighteen. Valerie married a Mike Deacon and they live in Wales. Dennis West brother George lived with us in Duncombe Road .Dennis was born in 1909 his father was a french polisher who died early in life, he committed suicide I can only assume that thisr was FrederickWilliamWest, and his brother George was the son shown on the family tree as William G.WestIbelieve Dennis West was the son of Frederick William and Edith Mary West, what do you think.?as he was in the regular army and went in the army very young maybe his name never appeared on the census.I note you have listed under Mable Liguori a John Liguori ,he is actually the adopted son of Joseph :Ligouri and his wife Lee they have three adopted children.Just apoint of interest I and my brother were brought up in Alice Campbell's house she was our Grandmother, with her sons George, Douglas Frank and Alex and there was only a few years separating our ages, Alex was only 4 years older than me, we were like brothers and sister, they were my big brothers and Alex always referred to me as his little sister, so I knew them all pretty well. Hope you and your family had agreat holiday, keep in touch its so nice to talk with you all, Joy & Dave in Georgia.
